Concepts for Assignment 2

For this second assignment we were assigned to design a map where the user could be guided either clockwise or counterclockwise through Delft.

We did this with the following elements:

  • Narrative: The silhouet figure suggest the walking direction on to the map.
  • 3D: The pictures are arranged like a staircase. Where the following pictures are higher up and further away. This way the pictures also indicate a walking direction.
  • Composition: By placing the route closer to one of the edges (left or right) the user is at first glance forced to focues on either the left or the right part of the map.
  • Colour: The shadow effect on the map makes one part of the route more visible due to a higher contrast with the background.

Assignment 2: Map

The second assignment is about designing two versions of a pedestrian map of the center of Delft in such a way that influences the behavior of the users. For the first step we start with a route map.

According to previous assignment each team member has a good overview from the related chapter in the book (Visual Thinking for Design). So we decide to bring our personal findings and ideas afterward.

The message is that the government acknoledges the current state and disturbance. Hence the sort of depressing minimalistic picture.
